Allen's Hummingbird. A rarity in Virginia. Only the 3rd recorded sighting in the state. She has decided to spend the winter and picked the perfect family. They recognized her as an Allen's and alerted birders. Banders came down from MD and banded her. The family is keeping her alive by heating her 3 nectar feeders using reptile heaters to keep the nectar from freezing. She strong, fat and happy, despite the sometimes brutal weather. She is one lucky Hummer and we are lucky to have seen her!
